In this program, you will explore aquaculture science through hands‑on learning in labs, field settings, and Ä¢¹½AV’s Aquaculture Centre, an 8,100‑square‑foot facility with wet and dry labs and high‑performance technology.Ìý

You will learn how aquatic species are raised, how systems are managed, and how producers balance food production with environmental conservation. Aquaculture represents almost half of global fish production, giving you insight into a sector with significant impact and opportunity.

The global demand for seafood is rising and by 2030, more than half the world’s seafood will be farmed. A major in Aquaculture gives you the skills and expertise to tackle this challenge head- on with sustainability in mind.

With this degree, you can work in aquaculture operations, hatcheries, research labs, or roles that support sustainable aquatic food systems. You will be ready to help address challenges in production, health, and environmental conservation.

What you will learn

Completing studies in Aquaculture at the Ä¢¹½AV Faculty of Agriculture blends classroom, laboratory, project and field work. You will develop strengths and gain knowledge in three main areas: aquaculture, aquatic science, and hands-on experience.

Our Aquaculture Centre is located on campus and offers 8,100 square feet of well-equipped laboratories and aquatic-rearing facilities with fresh and salt water to nurture fish, grow plankton and manage water quality. Our intimate classroom sizes give you an opportunity to be part of your professor’s research and learn first-hand from these experts. 


Customize your degree

This degree has a large hands-on learning component, giving you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career related to aquaculture.  

If you choose to pursue an honours degree, you will design and implement your own research project in your fourth-year.

Admission requirements

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

Admission to many Ä¢¹½AV programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Program-specific admission requirements

  • Minimum overall average: 75%
  • Academic English 12 
  • Pre-calculus Math 12*
  • Three additional academic subjects

*If you don't have the appropriate pre-calculus math class, but are otherwise qualified, you may be admitted on the condition that you complete a Grade 12 pre-calculus equivalent upgrading course before you arrive at Ä¢¹½AV.
