Areas of specialization for the Master of EconomicsÌýprogramÌýfrom Ä¢¹½AV are open, subject to the fields of economics represented in the graduate course offerings in any given year and the ability of students to arrange a supervisor. This course-based master's program includes courses in micro- and macroeconomic theory and econometrics, as well as three economic field courses. If you are interested in an area other than those represented by the graduate course offerings, you must secure a supervisor (in the department) to be able to pursue those interests.
After your first year, you may be eligible to apply for the thesis stream.ÌýYou’llÌýhave the opportunity to undertake research of innovative,Ìýoriginal, and publishable quality.Ìý

Course options:
Core coursework typically includes Macroeconomic Theory (ECON 5500), Microeconomic Theory (ECON 5509), and Econometrics I (ECON 5575), plus graduate electives. Non-thesis students must complete at least 6 credit hours of writing-intensive economics electives; thesis students usually take fewer electives and complete a thesis.
All graduate programs at Ä¢¹½AV are collaboratively delivered by a home Faculty and theÌýFaculty of Graduate Studies.

You'll need to meet theÌýFaculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirementsÌýas well as any program-specific admission requirements before you can apply.
For aÌýSeptember start, apply byÌýMarch 1 (international applicants)Ìý´Ç°ùÌýMay 1 (Canadian applicants).
Program-specific requirements
This program requires you to meet the following criteria:
Honours BA or BSc in Economics (or equivalent) with at least B+ (upper second-class) in economics and related fields. Normally requires economics beyond introductory level, including advanced theory, statistics, econometrics, and applied field courses, plus calculus I & II and linear algebra. Applicants with gaps may be assignedÌýadditionalÌýrequirements or directed to a Qualifying Year/Special Undergraduate year.
Applicants must satisfy Ä¢¹½AV’s English languageÌýproficiencyÌýrequirements.
