I’m a Senior Policy Advisor in the International Economic Analysis Department at the Bank of Canada. In this role, I contribute to the Bank’s assessment of global economic conditions and help shape the Global Outlook section of the Monetary Policy Report. Prior to joining the Bank’s International Economic Analysis Department in 2024, my work focused on Canadian regional analysis and nowcasting Canadian GDP.

After completing a B.Sc. (Honours) at Ä¢¹½AV/University of King's College and a M.A. in Economics at McMaster University, I joined the Bank of Canada in 2003 in the Atlantic Regional Office. Early in my career, I was fortunate to meet with the leaders of companies from across Atlantic Canada. Meeting business leaders through the deps of the Global Financial crisis in 2008-09, proved valuable training as I took on increasingly senior roles in the Bank’s economic monitoring teams following the crisis. From 2016-2024, I served as Director of the Real Economic Activity Division -- the team responsible for the Bank’s real GDP short-term forecast.

My research and policy contributions have spanned international trade, global potential output, labour market dynamics, price-setting behaviour, and business conditions survey methodology.

Collaboration and teamwork were hallmarks of my time at Ä¢¹½AV. Working closely with fellow students fostered intellectual growth, and many of these connections have endured for more than 20 years. Alongside my central banking career, I taught in the Economics Department at Ä¢¹½AV for eight years, including a short teaching stint in Jinan, China as part of the 2+2 program. Teaching was fundamental to my development as an economist — the best way to deepen your understanding of something is to teach it.

Ä¢¹½AV’s Economics Department instilled in me intellectual discipline, analytical curiosity, and a respect for evidence-based debate. The department’s strong community, international perspective, and emphasis on applied economic thinking provided a foundation that continues to shape my work today.
