Graduate Scholarships and Awards

Students are eligible to receive some combination of scholarships and teaching assistanceships. Many also work as research assistants for faculty members, who generate a significant number of major research grants each year. We also encourage applicants to seek support from external sources. This is especially the case for Ph.D. students who are expected to seek support from agencies like or . Scholarship programs are also managed by the .
Students admitted to the political science program are automatically considered, if eligible, for the following prizes, awards, and scholarships.

Additional Funding Opportunities at Ä¢¹½AV
All students who apply to our program by January 31stÌýwill be considered for the following scholarships: Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarships (MA or PhD); Ä¢¹½AV Research Excellence Scholarships (PhD); Ä¢¹½AV 1-year Master’s Scholarships (MA); and Killam Doctoral Scholarships (PhD). Please see the Faculty of Graduate Studies scholarship webpageÌýfor more information (e.g. eligibility, value) on these awards. There is no separate application required to be considered for these awards. However, students applying to our Master’s program are strongly encouraged to apply to the Ìý(deadline: December 1st, 2025). Only students who have applied for the SSHRC CGRSM via the SSHRC portal will be considered for that award.Ìý
Students planning to apply to the doctoral program should also apply to the Ìý(deadline: October 17th for students applying directly to SSHRC). This award is not managed by Ä¢¹½AV.
