Theatre Studies
What is Theatre Studies?
Ä¢¹½AV's Theatre Studies is for students who want to explore theatre from both creative and critical perspectives.
Love watching theatre, reading plays, debating key issues in theatre, or dream of directing and writing for the stage? At the Fountain School you'll immerse yourself in both the study of drama and the creative process.
What will I learn?
You'll gain a deep understanding of theatre from a global perspective, exploring the history of theatre from ancient times to contemporary Canada. Over your four years you'll build skills that are valuable in many careers, including:
- Critical thinking
- Communication and writing
- Research and analysis
- Creative problem-solving
Through class discussions and writing projects, you'll learn how to examine theatre ideas, performances, and texts with confidence. Our small class sizes ensure personalized attention and mentorship.
Will I have opportunities to be creative?
Absolutely. You'll be part of a multi-diciplinary performing arts school!
In addition to studying theatre history and theory, you'll take creative courses in playwriting and directing, allowing you to put your learning into practice and develop your own artistic voice.
Will I gain hands-on experience?
Yes. Honours students work as an assistant director or dramaturge on a Fountain School theatrical production in their final year, gaining practical experience and professional insight into the creative process. Playwriting and directing courses can include work with professional actors.
