Amanda Wilneff, Schulich Law's student accessibility and wellness advisor, and the Weldon Gardening Club invite members of the law school community to stop by their drop-in gardening station for a hands-on opportunity to learn how to start their own home garden.

The Weldon French Speakers Society invites members of the law school community to join them for a screening of 'Anatomy of a Fall', a French legal and psychological drama.

Ģ��AV the Movie:

Samuel is found dead in the snow outside the isolated chalet where he lived with his wife Sandra, a German writer, and their partially-sighted 11-year-old son Daniel. An investigation leads to a conclusion of "suspicious death": it's impossible to know for sure whether he took his own life or was killed. Sandra is indicted, and we follow her trial which pulls the couple's relationship apart. Daniel is caught in the middle: between the trial and their home life, doubts take their toll on the mother-son relationship.

Sandra, une écrivaine allemande, vit avec son mari Samuel et leur fils aveugle Daniel dans un chalet isolé dans les Alpes françaises. Lorsque Samuel chute mortellement dans des circonstances mystérieuses, l'enquête ne parvient pas à déterminer s'il s'agit d'un suicide ou d'un meurtre. Sandra est finalement arrêtée pour meurtre et le procès met leur relation tumultueuse et sa personnalité ambiguë sous les projecteurs.

Courts and the Dynamics of Democratic Decline

Even in some of the world’s sturdiest democracies, leaders are deliberately undermining courts to weaken, or even dismantle, checks on their power.

In many cases, the justice system is not only being sidelined but “weaponized” against political opponents through political appointments, the strong-arming of judges and law firms, and lawsuits and prosecutions designed to intimidate critics.

These tactics threaten the rule of law – a necessary component of democracy. How much damage has already been done? Where and how can courts reassert themselves in ways that bolster threatened democracies? And what, if anything, can judges, lawyers, and ordinary citizens do to shore up the legal foundations of democracy?

This year's Stanfield Conversation will be moderated by journalist, producer of CBC's IDEAS, and Dal alumna Mary Lynk (BA '84) and will include two featured speakers:

Wayne MacKay, Professor Emeritus of Law, Schulich School of Law
Asha Rangappa, Senior Lecturer, Jackson School of Global Affairs, Yale University, and former FBI Special Agent

The Law & Technology Institute at the Schulich School of Law cordially invites you to attend the inaugural Canadian Technology Law Conference (CTLC): Democracy and the Information Society.

This event is dedicated to discussing the regulation of emerging technologies and the impact of law on society.
