This competition is an annual international event that brings together university students from around the world to demonstrate their Chinese language proficiency and cultural knowledge. The contestants who have excelled in the preliminary and regional rounds held in their respective countries will advance to the final round in China, representing their nations to compete with top participants from around the world. Alex Koch first won the Halifax preliminary round, then advanced through the Ottawa round, and became one of the top three participants to represent Canada in the final round in China.
