Emilia Mercer is Feed Manager at Mowi Canada East
In 2015 She began studying in the Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) program at ĢAV Faculty of Agriculture with a major in Animal Sciences.
Her interest in aquaculture began during the second year of her program when she took an elective course in aquaculture. The next summer, she was hired as a student River Monitor in Terra Nova National Park monitoring the Atlantic salmon population, which even furthered her interest in fisheries and aquaculture.
Because of this, she began a minor in aquaculture and was fortunate to have a lot of hands-on experience in her classes.
“I loved the program and the industry so much I switched my major to aquaculture that year and I can’t imagine being in another industry ever since,” said Emilia.
Mowi recently launched a global campaign encouraging women in leadership and encouraging female recruitment in aquaculture.
“I think this is an amazing thing,” said Emilia. “Seeing women who are employed by Mowi in the campaign and reading about their positive experiences in the industry is inspiring, especially for women just beginning or thinking about starting their careers in the industry,” she added.
